#30DaysofArt 7/30: Ines Katamso

Let say I hold my pinky finger up while drinking a teh tawar on the floor,” tutur gadis berdarah Indonesia-Prancis yang merupakan visual artist sekaligus surface & interior designer yang berdomisili di Bali ini. “Bagi saya, it’s always a matter of composition.

My parents no doubts. My father was a musician and leather tailor and my mum is a great painter and tattoo artist. Since I was a kid I wanted to be a designer/artist so it was easy for me to choose my schools.

Apa yang mendorongmu untuk berkarya?

To always evolved and to be sure that I can do better.

Masih ingat karya atau ekshibisi pertamamu?

I think it was 10 years ago during design school, it was a group exhibition but to be honest it wasn’t really exciting.

Apa idealismemu dalam berkarya?

Regarding my personal artworks: painting and drawings, they are a way to bring a form to the informal. Giving a line for this type of fair, a texture for this kind of sensation is my way to desecrate a feeling in order to release it.

Bagaimana kamu menemukan medium favoritmu?

I am not sure if I want to find it, saya tidak ingin stuck di satu hal karena takut bosan. Tapi sebetulnya saya banyak memakai enamel, pastel oil, dan pensil warna untuk karya saya.

Siapa saja seniman yang menginspirasi?

I have many inspirations: Malevitch, Kandinsky, Sonia Delaunay, Rothko, Bacon, Klein, Calder, Christo, Soulage.

Pencapaian paling berkesan sejauh ini?

It’s my actual project, mengerjakan semua interior design untuk sebuah restoran mulai dari pattern piring, lamp shape, sampai mural. It’s a great opportunity to create a unique space where each line, colours, texture are related to my concept and aesthetics values.

Apa rasanya menjadi seniman di era social media seperti sekarang?

Sebagai desainer/artist, merupakan hal yang sulit untuk percaya diri di era social media karena selain fakta jika internet adalah a great cultural tool, the access to this amount of pictures, information, and inspiration can bring many doubts on someone’s personality.

There are few exhibitions here in Bali but I am not a social person, I know its selfish to say that but I prefer to paint in my atelier than going out.

Tell me about your secret skill or current obsession beside art!

Sorry beside art and design I have no other obsession or skills. Haha I feel I’m so boring right now.
